'The World’s End' Soundtrack Features Blur, Pulp, The Stone Roses, Kylie Minogue & More

The World's End' set|Get ready folks, “The World’s End” is near. Before you grab for your pitchfork and rosary, we’re not talking about the actual end of the world, but the final film of Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg‘s Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy. In “Shaun of the Dead,” they tackled zombies by way of slacker comedy. In “Hot Fuzz,” they took on the buddy cop genre with a hint of countryside cult conspiracy. This time around in “The World’s End,” it looks like they’ve reworked the nostalgic reunion movie to include a sloppy pub crawl, some space invaders and a rocking soundtrack. It’s one of the most highly anticipated films of the summer, even in a crowd of apocalypse movies. Across the pond, reviews have begun to ebb out in anticipation of its U.K. premiere on July 19th and thankfully, they’re mostly positive, one of our favorites being from The Times — “While achieving Olympic levels of stupidity, The World’s End is a movie which leaves you grinning from ear to ear, or possibly from beer to beer.” Not-so-luckily, we still have over a month until the film hits stateside.

In the meantime, the onslaught of promotional material has already begun with pictures, TV spots, a featurette, a trailer or two, and even an endearing thank you tweet from Simon Pegg — “Have to thank you again for enduring this particularly heavy promotional period. It’s been ten years and we want our new baby to do well.x” Now, we’ve got our hands on the film’s soundtrack and it’s a bit of a time warp, filled with some prime’ 80s and ’90s nostalgia. Heavily anchored by British rock, the tracklisting includes The Sisters of Mercy along with Madchester greats The Stone Roses, Happy Mondays, Inspiral Carpets, The Charlatans, and Blur. If rocking out wasn’t quite your thing 20 years ago, don’t worry, there are also some dance and pop music tracks for you to reminisce over from artists like Definition of Sound, Kylie Minogue and Soul II Soul. Also, as though we aren’t excited enough, we can’t wait to see the scene (betting on a boozy montage) that features “Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar)” by The Doors.

Check out the full list below, with samples where applicable, and rock out. “The World’s End” opens in the U.K. on July 19th and in the U.S. on August 23rd. The official soundtrack lands on July 29th in UK — the tracklist is below — but no date yet on a stateside bow.
