Got a Tip?

Anna Kendrick To Star In Timeline-Swapping Relationship Musical ‘The Last Five Years’

nullWhile remaining the constant between two recent projects propelled by excellent word-of-mouth, "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" and “Pitch Perfect” actress Anna Kendrick nonetheless proved her 2010 Oscar nomination a worthy pick. While that honor was for her supporting work opposite George Clooney in “Up In The Air,” she's slowly taken more of a central role starting with 'Pitch,' and now she's found another starring project that keeps her singing talents in focus yet again.

Based on playwright Jason Robert Brown's critically-acclaimed stage musical “The Last Five Years,” which centers on athe tumultuous relationship between a young man and woman, the film adaptation will find Kendrick as the female lead, Cathy, a struggling young actress. The narrative kicks off as she finds love in another actor Jamie, and through a unique storytelling device, her perspective unfurls in reverse chronological order, while his works in just the opposite, capturing the first date, break-ups, and marriages along the way.

Reminiscent of another upcoming film about relationships boasting distinctive storytelling, the two-part Jessica Chastain drama “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby,” “Last Five Years” looks to stretch Kendrick on both dramatic and musical fronts in a compelling way. With Richard LaGravenese (“P.S. I Love You”) set to write and direct the film as well, the project should have no problem getting picked up as production company The Exchange (“Two Guns”) touts the film at the American Film Market in Santa Monica at month's end.
