In the internet age, it’s pretty difficult to anything under lock and key for too long, but Judd Apatow has thus far done a pretty damn good job at keeping the details of his “Knocked Up” spinoff under wraps. What we do know is that it’s not a direct sequel exactly, but rather, it picks up with Pete and Debbie (Paul Rudd and Leslie Mann) five years after the events of the first film, thought that’s about it. Well, shooting is underway and another name has joined the film. Variety reveals that the 13-year old Ava Sambora — yes, the daughter of rocker Richie Sambora — will cameo in the film as the best friend of Maude Apatow, who reprises her role as the eldest daughter of the couple.
With the extensive cast also including Megan Fox, Albert Brooks, Lena Dunham, Chris O’Dowd, Wyatt Russell, Ryan Lee, Melissa McCarthy, Annie Mumolo, Robert Smigel and Charlene Yi it seems that Apatow — as usual with his working process — is still figuring things out as he’s going along with the production. In an interview with Collider during the press run for “Our Idiot Brother,” Rudd confirmed that Apatow doesn’t want to say too much about the tentatively titled “This Is Forty” and that even though it’s right in the midst of shooting, anything can happen. “I don’t know if all of them are really set yet,” Rudd said about the potential cast and characters for the film.
Earlier this spring, Apatow revealed that more members of the “Knocked Up” cast might be in the film if their schedules will allow it, and their possible participation is playing a role in how the pieces of the movie are being put together. “A lot of it just depends on people’s availabilities and the story I’m trying to tell, who fits into that story. There definitely will be other people from ‘Knocked Up’ in the movie,” Apatow said. But thus far, aside from Rudd, Mann and Yi, only Jason Segel has been confirmed to make an appearance, though we’d be really surprised if Seth Rogen doesn’t stop by the set at one point.
So, there is still lots to uncover about “This Is Forty” including what the final title will even be. The film is currently slated to hit theaters on December 21, 2012.
