Cannes First Look: The Dardennes' 'The Unknown Girl,' Andrea Arnold's 'American Honey' And Park Chan-Wook's 'The Handmaiden'

The Unknown GirlIt’s time to start turning green with envy for those who are lucky enough to attend the Cannes Film Festival year. Organizers have revealed their slate for 2016, and as per usual, it’s a terrific bounty of top shelf cinema, and all we can do is drool from afar. But a few new snaps will help make it feel like those movies are a bit closer to home.

Leading the way is the first look at Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne‘s La fille Inconnue" ("The Unknown Girl"). Starring César Award winner Adèle Haenel, the story follows Jenny, a doctor who feels guilty after a young woman she refused to see winds up dead a few days later, leading her on a journey to find out who the girl really was.

Next is Andrea Arnold‘s "American Honey." Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf and Riley Keough, the story follows Star, a teenage girl from a troubled home, who runs away with a travelling sales crew that drives across the American mid-west selling Magazine subscriptions door to door. Finding her feet in this gang of teenagers, she soon gets into the group’s lifestyle of hard partying, law-bending and young love.

Lastly is a poster and new images for Park Chan-Wook‘s "The Handmaiden," his adaptation of Sarah Waters‘ novel "Fingersmith" about an heiress, con man and pickpocket.  

The Cannes Film Festival runs from May 11-22.
