‘The Batman Part II’ Delayed Again As Warner Bros. Pushes Robert Pattinson’s Return To 2028

Batman fans, you’re not going to be happy about this update concerning Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” as Warner Bros. has announced some slate shifts, as studios do from time to time, and in that reveal, they’ve delayed the film’s release to early 2028 after it was previously set for a theatrical bow on October 1, 2027.

They’ve now officially moved the latest installment from DC Studios to debut on February 18, 2028, and we’re hopeful that, since cameras have been rolling for a while now, we won’t see another date shift (this is yet another after development delays in the past).

British actor Robert Pattinson (“The Odyssey,” “Dune: Part 3”) is back as Bruce Wayne/Batman alongside fellow returners such as Jeffrey Wright (Jim Gordon), Andy Serkis (Alfred Pennyworth), and Colin Farrell (has a minor role this time around as Oz Cobb, aka The Penguin). A list of newcomers to Gotham City for the sequel includes Sebastian Stan (said to be playing the film’s villain, after reports of that being Harvey Dent, although a version of Hush felt like a possibility, too), Scarlett Johansson (her role rumored to be either Gilda Dent or Poison Ivy, we’re still waiting on character confirmations from WB/Reeves), Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry, and Sebastian Koch.

This iteration of Batman is taking a cue from Christopher Nolan’s tenure by being allowed to be set in its own universe. Reeves is overseeing it (including spinoffs like the HBO Max show “The Penguin”), slightly more grounded than what is happening with the mainline DCU, after it’s been clarified that another actor will be playing the DCU’s version of the Batman for “The Brave & The Bold” (the other gestating Batman flick).

Reeves has been telegraphed his overall plans to hammer-out a trilogy of solo films, but we’re in the dark about when that third pic (assumed to be called “The Batman Part III”) will be happeing, since we wouldn’t be terribly shocked if the filmmaker might want to take a breather for a couple years to rest or make some other stuff before capping off his trilogy.
