Got a Tip?

Dakota Johnson & Matthias Schoenaerts To Make Music Together In ‘The Sound Of Metal’

Dakota Johnson & Matthias SchoenaertsWhen actors decide to play music in film, if they want to do it right, they have to learn the instrument they’re playing, which can be a daunting task in a short amount of time. Christian Bale learned how to play drums for "The Big Short," by hiring an instructor and listing to nothing but Pantera and Mastodon for two weeks (badass). We’ll see what lengths Dakota Johnson and Matthias Schoenaerts will go to get it right for "The Sound Of Metal."

The pair will star in the movie that marks the directorial debut Darius Maruder, the screenwriter behind Derek Cianfrance‘s "The Place Beyond The Pines." The story sees Johnson and Schoenaerts playing in a band together, as a singer and drummer respectively, and they face a challenge when the dude behind the kit begins to lose his hearing.

Financing is still coming, but production will begin in August, so plenty of time for Johnson to get a voice coach, and maybe Schoenaerts can ring up Bale’s guy. Up next for the duo is Luca Guadagnino‘s "A Bigger Splash," which opens on May 13th. [Deadline]
