Got a Tip?

Rupert Wyatt To Direct Pilot For ‘The Exorcist’ TV Series

Rupert Wyatt The ExorcistHow scary is William Friedkin‘s 1973 horror landmark "The Exorcist"? So scary that even the stuff that didn’t make the film is genuinely terrifying. As the sequels for the movie demonstrated, there was simply no matching the original. However, it’s a valuable brand, which means there’s more possession to come, this time in the shape of a TV series.

Rupert Wyatt ("Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes") has been tapped to direct the pilot for Fox‘s upcoming TV version of the ordeal undergone by Regan MacNeil. Jeremy Slater ("Fantastic Four," "The Lazarus Effect" —hmm, those are some worrying credentials) has penned a script that will be inspired by William Peter Blatty‘s novel, following two priests who must help one family overcome a case of demonic possession.

Wyatt’s suggests that Fox is rightfully concerned about getting this rendition right. You might recall that "Martha Marcy May Marlene" director Sean Durkin was at one time attached to direct a 10-part miniseries version of "The Exorcist" that never came to pass. As for Wyatt, he showed with ‘Rise’ that he’s adept of exceeding expectations, so it’ll be interesting to see how he puts this stamp on the material, though hopefully he won’t be too boxed in by the constraints of network TV.
