You see that image up there? That’s every reason why Sony and Mattel are teaming up to try and bring He-Man, Skeletor and the rest of “Masters Of The Universe” characters to the big screen. It’s all about toys and merchandising and you can bet that watching Hasbro milk “Transformers” to over $2.5 billion worldwide over three movies, they want to taste some of that mozzarella (ie. cheese = money).
It’s been two years since “Predators” scribes Mike Finch and Alex Litvak were hired to pen the script, and now Deadline reports that Jon M. Chu has been hired to direct the film. We suppose the reshoots and 3D conversion around the delayed “G.I. Joe: Retaliation” isn’t bothering them any, nor the fact that before this his credits include two “Step Up” movies and “Justin Beiber Never Say Never.” But then again, this is a toy movie, not rocket science, right? And in that vein, while plot details are not known at the moment, once again, it’s a no brainer: He-Man vs. Skeletor. Can’t be that difficult…can it?
Well, tell that to Cannon Films who tried in 1987 with their “Masters Of The Universe” mess starring Dolph Lundren. But every kid who grew up with that and who still cares about a ‘Masters’ movie likely has a kid of their own, so the time is right we suppose. Now the next question: who should play the hero and the villain?
