The quirk alert for “A Case Of You” goes off pretty early once you realize the love interest in the film is named Birdie Hazel, while Peter Dinklage plays a flamboyant barista with an unpronounceable name that rhymes with Gerard. Laughing yet? Then this rom-com might be for you.
Starring Justin Long, who folks are continuing to try to make happen, and Evan Rachel Wood, the film follows a single dude who decides to use a woman’s Facebook profile (or non-trademark infringing movie equivalent) to learn about what she likes so he can be the man of her dreams. At first, it leads to all sorts of romantic mishaps—he can’t rock climb!—but when she actually falls for him, he starts having the kind of ethical dilemmas he should’ve had in the first place. So how bad is this? When we saw it at the Tribeca Film Festival earlier this year, we called it “insulting, loathsome and banal.”
