12 New 'Lincoln' Photos As Film Heads Towards Wide Release & Wide Acclaim

nullEven though none of us at The Playlist seemed to care for "Lincoln" — here's our review, our thoughts from NYFF, and I saw it last night and thought it to be reverential to the point of tedium — our tepid reaction to it doesn't discount the fact that it's already taken off in limited release, seems poised to do well in wide, and should be a major Oscar contender come February when the nominations are released. And Disney is certainly getting the word out with a dozen new images from the Steven Spielberg's latest effort.

Beauitfully assembled and strongly acted by an ensemble cast led by Daniel Day-Lewis, the film covers the passage of the 13th Amendment ending slavery, and never has voting been so thoroughly and exhaustively explored. Plus monologues — oh, the monologues. But there are some highlights, DDL aside. Tommy Lee Jones represents the ethical question at the heart of the debate in many ways, and gives a great turn as Thaddeus Stevens. But then there's James Spader as a lobbyist of sorts trying to sway Democratic voters to the yes side, who is a pure delight and lights up the movie whenever he's on screen. Could he sneak into a Supporting Actor nomination? Probably not, but we also wouldn't be suprised if it happened, especially if the movie really takes off.

"Lincoln" goes wide starting tomorrow, November 16th. Put on your top hat with the pics below.
