Johnny Depp To Reprise 'Edward Scissorhands' For 'Family Guy' Appearance

nullWhile he's been one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood over the past decade or so, when Johnny Depp commits to a role — he really goes all in. Sure he probably took his paycheck for "The Tourist" with shame, but he's capable of standing out within the blockbuster fluff of films like the recent "Dark Shadows" and pretty much all of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" series, and is even up for some righteous self parody on shows like Ricky Gervais' "Life's Too Short" and a particularly violent homage wink to the show that helped garner him his initial notoriety in this year's "21 Jump Street." Though for those who long for the early days of Depp — especially when his work with director Tim Burton was of the more satisfying variety — then you're in for a treat.

EW is reporting that Depp will be heading to Quahog, Rhode Island to join Peter Griffin and his offbeat family on Fox's animated series "Family Guy," only he'll be bringing his clipping shears along with him. That's right, we may catch Depp trimming the shrubbery around the Griffin household into intricate animals and such as he reprises his role of Edward Scissorhands from the 1990 film of the same name. Though what regular viewers of the Seth MacFarlane-created series know, Edward won't be on the screen for very long, as Depp will only be voicing the character for one of the show's trademark cutaway gags — which can sometimes last no more than a second (though we're guessing it will at least be a bit more substantial than that.

High praise came from the show's executive producer Mark Hentemann for the actor, who said he snapped "right back into Edward Scissorhands" almost as soon as he walked into the booth. It's admirable that Depp — who according to EW frequently watched the show along with his kids — would take time away from his busy leading man status, so we have to give him credit for what should be a humorous moment for "Family Guy" and "Edward Scissorhands" fans alike.
