For Chrissakes, enough already. It's bad enough we have to endure a two night OPRAH EVENT with shamed Lance Armstrong, but there are also the countless think pieces that have emerged in the past and, I shit you not, I'm pretty sure I saw an article today about a joke Armstrong tried to tell in part one of the interview, that didn't quite land. But if you've had enough of Armstrong mania and his bid to be loved again because he needs to make a living now that all of his endorsements fell through, guess what: here comes the movie about his life.
Paramount and J.J. Abrams' shingle Bad Robot have teamed up, snagging the rights to the book "Cycle Of Lies: The Fall Of Lance Armstrong" by Juliet Macur that hasn't been written yet. Anyway, Macur is legit, a New York Times reporter who has covered Armstrong for years, and will no doubt be able to deliver the saga of the cancer survivor, Tour De France champion and Livestrong founder, and his quick, tragic downfall in the wake of his doping. But aren't we Armstrong-ed out already? Isn't this is cinematic equivalent of schadenfreude?
No word yet on who will pen the script, but this the kind of thing that needs to happen fast, so we're sure someone will be found soon enough. Of course, this isn't the first time someone has tried a Lance Armstrong movie. Sony attempted to get one mounted years ago with producer Frank Marshall ("Back to the Future," the 'Bourne' films), that at various times had Matt Damon and Jake Gyllenhaal to star, but it never came together. But Alex Gibney does have a documentary in post-production, also narrated by Matt Damon, so that's something. But does this guy really need his own biopic? If so, let's at least get Oprah to play Oprah. [Deadline]
