Watch: Kristen Wiig Is The 'Girl Most Likely' In Trailer For The New Comedy From The Directors Of 'American Splendor'

Girl Most Likely, Kristen Wiig, Annette BeningKristen Wiig exploded after the massive success of “Bridesmaids,” but unlike Melissa McCarthy, we have yet to see the cinematic rewards be reaped. Her only notable post-“Bridesmaids” turns were a small part in “Friends With Kids” and another little bit in “Friends With Jolly!,” but by the end of year, she’ll be back on radars thanks to “Anchorman: The Legend Continues” and “The Secret Life Of Walter Mitty” alone. Before both of those, though, another one of her indie films will be hitting the big screen.

Girl Most Likely” — formerly known as “Imogene” — has some good pedigree, with Annette Bening co-starring as a reluctantly supportive mother to her neurotic daughter, in the film directed by “American Splendor” helmers Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini . There are shades of “Silver Linings Playbook” in the general premise, which sees Imogene (Wiig) coming under the care of her mom after suffering a breakdown. And then, yes, she has to put her life back together, which results in many quirky adventures. The result? Well, it’s a bit uneven, but with just enough charm to make it worth tracking down.

Co-starring Matt Dillon, Christopher Fitzgerald and Darren Criss, “Girl Most Likely” definitely opens on July 19th. And it won’t be long for the next Berman/Pulcini joint. Deadline reports that the pair have just signed up to rewrite and direct  “My Beautiful Coma,” a fantastical comedy that follows “an estranged couple who, after a car accident, find themselves side by side in comatose states. While sleeping, they each escape into their own alternate-reality where they are able to live out their every whim and fantasy, free of the banal details of real life. But when they mysteriously cross over into each other’s coma-worlds, all bets are off.”
