Got a Tip?

First Images From Disney’s Videogame-Themed ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Debut

nullOne Disney project we've heard is shaping up to be really special is this Thanksgiving's animated feature "Wreck-It Ralph." Originally entitled "Reboot Ralph," it's the tale of an '80s videogame villain named Wreck-It Ralph (John C. Reilly) who is tired of being the bad-guy against the squeaky clean Fix-It Felix (Jack McBrayer), so he decides to try his hand at being the hero of another game in the arcade. He hops from game to game, trying his hand at heroics, until he unintentionally unleashes a larger threat that could destroy all of the games. An intriguing premise, for sure, and with the film directed by longtime "Simpsons" and "Futurama" director Rich Moore, it has the potential to be really zany and fun. And the first glimpse at art from the movie, courtesy of French site CineHeroes, seems to confirm this.

The first image, of a space-marine-type figure fighting green aliens, is when Wreck-It Ralph visits "Hero's Duty," a "Call of Duty"/"Halo"-style game. This is where he meets Jane Lynch's character, Sergeant Calhoun, who serves as a friend and ally to Ralph. The image is dynamic and totally captures the spirit of those games (overwhelming chaos) incredibly well.

Next, the second image is more sorrowful — it's Ralph looking at an apartment building with some decidedly "Donkey Kong"-style fire escape ladders. We could see this image coming from the first part of the movie, with Ralph deciding that he's going to be something more than a one-note videogame villain.

And the last image looks like it's from a "Mario Kart"-type game called "Sugar Rush," which is where he encounters Vanellope von Schweetz (voiced by Sarah Silverman). Again: this looks spot on, with the different lands and the cutesy, cartoony art style. This will also be a key set in the movie, but we're reluctant to say why.

We are certainly excited about "Wreck-It Ralph." It hits theaters on November 2, 2012.nullnull
