One of the most quotable and riotously funny characters in popular culture at the moment has to be the anti-hero that is Kenny Powers from HBO‘s “Eastbound & Down,” the brain child of Danny McBride, David Gordon-Green, Jody Hill and Ben Best.
After the recent addition of Jason Sudekis (who’s also set to return on the new season of another comedy favorite, “It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia“) to the third and final season of the show, two stars who have previously chimed in with cameo appearances — Will Ferrell and Matthew McConaughey, who respectively played BMW dealership owner Ashley Schaeffer and gay player scout Roy McDaniel — are now set to reprise their roles for Powers’ swan song.
The return of both thespians promises great characters for McBride to bounce off of with the reunion of Powers and Ferrell’s Schaeffer to be interesting viewing, considering Powers last run-in with the Schaeffer character ended up with the foul-mouthed, short-tempered former Major League pitcher blinding Craig Robinson’s character with a pitch to the eye during a pitching contest organized by Schaeffer. It’s expected Steve Little and Katy Mixon, who plays Powers’ sidekick and the mother of his unborn child, will feature heavily while semi-regulars Ben Best, John Hawkes, Jennifer Irwin and Adam Scott are also likely to also make an appearance somewhere down the line.
The final season will see Powers heading to Myrtle Beach to play for their Minor League team at Pelican Stadium, the Mermens, with lensing to take place on location this summer. Below is the faux-ad for K-Swiss featuring the White Flame himself as well. [THR/BadassDigest/SlashFilm]
