Well, that was fast. Just this morning as it was announced that Paul Feig was returning to the small screen, backing "Ronna & Beverly" for Brit TV, it was said he was still eyeball his next feature project. Well, looks like it got packaged up faster than we thought.
Variety reports that Feig will team with Oscar winner Colin Firth for "Untouchable," a remake of the French smash hit and award-winning film "The Intouchables." The original film, co-directed by Eric Toledano and Olivier Nakache, tells the based-on-true-story tale of the relationship of a wealthy quadriplegic and his immigrant caregiver. Yes, it's a movie that will make you laugh and cry but it's also one that racked up nine César nominations, including a win for Omar Sy. Who did he beat? Oh, just someone you might have heard of named Jean Dujardin.
Anyway, the project is set up over at The Weinstein Company and Colin Firth is a frontrunner for the lead, though he's not locked yet and scheduling will need to be sorted. But we figure he'll do everything he can to land a role that is so clearly geared for critical adulation. No word yet on when it will start, and Feig also has other projects brewing, but if the French original — due to hit theaters stateside on May 25th — goes over like gangbusters, you can bet Harvey won't want to waste any time getting his remake in front of cameras.
