First Look: New Photos Of Jake Gyllenhaal, Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin And A New Poster From Himalayan Peak Thriller ‘Everest’

EverestGiven the earthquake that happened in Nepal, Universal‘s "Everest" will seem more relevant than ever. Based on a true-life story, "Everest," which features a star-studded cast, recounts a horrific 1996 tragedy in which eight climbers lost their lives trying to summit the famed Himalayan peak. Details and photos have surfaced of who plays who in the movie. The movie stars Jason Clarke as a climbing guide, and Josh Brolin as his client, as well as Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley and Robin Wright among many others.

"There was a cluster [of summiters] on the top," director Baltasar Kormákur told People. "In the end, what happened is that a lot of small things went wrong and waylaid them. People missed their passes, then a big storm hit." (Jon Krakauer’s best-seller "Into Thin Air" was about the same events. Suffice it to say given the premise, you’re probably going to see a lot of movie stars die in it. Here’s the official synopsis:

Inspired by the incredible events surrounding an attempt to reach the summit of the world’s highest mountain, Everest documents the awe-inspiring journey of two different expeditions challenged beyond their limits by one of the fiercest snowstorms ever encountered by mankind. Their mettle tested by the harshest elements found on the planet, the climbers will face nearly impossible obstacles as a lifelong obsession becomes a breathtaking struggle for survival. The epic adventure stars Jason Clarke, Josh Brolin, John Hawkes, Robin Wright, Michael Kelly, Sam Worthington, Keira Knightley, Emily Watson and Jake Gyllenhaal.
