Got a Tip?

Barbra Streisand Returns To Directing With ‘Catherine The Great’

nullShe hasn’t starred in a film since 2012’s "The Guilt Trip" with Seth Rogen, and hasn’t directed a movie since 1996’s "The Mirror Has Two Faces," so it’s probably safe to say that Barbra Streisand thinks long and hard before figuring out her next film project. But the legend has lined up a big one for her next effort behind the camera.

THR reports that Streisand will direct "Catherine The Great," a biopic about the famed leader. The script, by Kristina Lauren Anderson, topped the 2014 Black List of Hollywood’s best unproduced screenplays, and it will tell the story of the rise of Sophia Augusta who takes control of her life, her marriage, and her kingdom becoming Russia’s most celebrated and beloved monarch: Catherine the Great.

Gil Netter ("Life Of Pi," "The Blind Side") is producing, and movie is being put together before it lands at a studio. It certainly sounds like most ambitious directorial effort from Streisand yet, and it’ll be interesting to see how it develops, and who decides to take on the lead role.
