Got a Tip?

Bret McKenzie Returns To Write New Songs For ‘The Muppets 2,’ Filming Starts In January

nullWhile everyone is focused on what Disney is doing with the next “Star Wars” film — which won’t hit theaters for another three years — the Mouse House is focusing on next year’s films, which include the surprisingly under-the-radar (given the amount of press the 2011 film had in advance of its release) “The Muppets 2.” Now comes word that one of the first film’s important collaborators will return for the sequel.

The Oscar-winning — still feels weird typing that out — half of “Flight Of The ConchordsBret McKenzie will return to write the songs, producer Todd Lieberman confirmed to Collider. Although Jason Segel won’t be returning to the world of Henson, McKenzie will be reuniting with the rest of the original film’s key team, director James Bobin and co-writer Nicholas Stoller.

The Segel-spearheaded reboot was one of our favorite films of last year, so we hope the sequel will be able to work without the goofiness of the “How I Met Your Mother” star. The return of McKenzie, along with the addition of Christoph Waltz, seems like a good sign that things are moving in the right direction. Lieberman also teased that a new Muppet might be unveiled in the movie, so we'll have to see.

“The Muppets 2” will be released next year on December 20th.
