Going from rags to riches is a tiresome narrative. For the most part, it seems all you need is the right attitude, a little bit of luck, and everything will turn out alright in the end. But in "Prince," the race to fortune, particularly one that takes a shortcut, leads down a dangerous path. We have an exclusive clip from the movie that earned an Honorary Mention for the Crystal Bear for Best First Film at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year.
Helmed by music video director Sam De Jong, the story follows the teenage Ayoub, who lives in the housing projects of Amsterdam and strives to find love and respect. In this scene, he marvels at the flashy car driven by the local kingpin Kalpa. Here’s the official synopsis:
Seventeen-year-old Ayoub has a lot on his plate: his father is a junkie, his mother is a lonely divorcé, and his sister is falling in with the wrong crowd. Haunted by his father’s terrible reputation, Ayoub can’t get the attention of Laura, the most beautiful girl in the neighborhood. He does, however, gain the attention of Kalpa, an eccentric, purple Lamborghini-driving, psychotically violent local criminal. Falling in with Kalpa, Ayoub tries to enlarge his status (and wallet) enough to win Laura over, but soon finds that his new life is far more than he bargained for.
