Got a Tip?

Michael Biehn Says Neill Blomkamp’s ‘Alien’ Would’ve Focused On Newt; 2 Xenomorphs Rumored For ‘Alien: Covenant’

AliensNeill Blomkamp‘s delayed, and let’s face, probably-not-happening-anytime-soon "Alien" movie certainly had an interesting notion. The picture would’ve politely side-stepped the events of "Alien 3" and "Alien: Resurrection" and picked things up following "Aliens." How exactly that would work wasn’t quite clear, but now, Michael Biehn — whose Corporal Hicks is featured in the concept art shared earlier in the year by Blomkamp — has revealed some of the basic ideas around what that movie would’ve been like.

Chatting with Icons Of Fright, Biehn talked about the genesis of the movie, and some of the studio politics involved. "The basic idea is acting like ‘Alien’ 3 and 4 never existed… I know Ridley Scott is doing his movie first and is going to be the executive producer on this one, so I’m really looking forward to that. I know that Ridley’s focus is on [‘Alien: Covenant‘] and I’m sure that he and Fox both don’t want that and Neill’s movie to come out right next to each other, because they’re kind of two different worlds, with ‘Aliens’ taking place thousands of years later, which is how they explained it all to me, but at the same time, they want to give them a similar feel," he explained. "I know they’re putting the brakes on Neill’s movie just for a little while, but I really think that it would be embarrassing to Ridley and Fox and Sigourney [Weaver] if they just didn’t make the movie."

We’ll see how that plays out, but the most interesting part is the core idea of the story Blomkamp has cooked up. "They’re planning on bringing me and Newt back and at this point Newt will be around twenty-seven years old," Biehn said. "I know that every actress in Hollywood is going to want to play this one, it’s really a passing of the torch between Sigourney and this younger actress who would play Newt. It would keep the franchise alive and the studios would make money, because that’s what the bottom line is now: money. That’s why you end up seeing ‘Terminator‘ 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 10 and ‘The Fast And Furious‘ 7, 8, 9, and 10."

Certainly, it’s not a big surprise that 20th Century Fox want to keep the "Alien" series going, and as we know, Scott’s "Alien: Covenant" rolls next, with production starting in February. All we know so far of the story is that a new colony ship will discover the remnants of the Prometheus expedition, and its sole remaining survivor: Michael Fassbender‘s David. But new rumors suggest the terror will be bigger this time around.

According to Scified, two xenomorph-related creatures will be featured, with one of them featuring an very interesting origin. Here’s what they had to say — **SPOILERS AHEAD**:

The movie will have 2 Monsters, one is new and both are different yet similar to the Xeno DNA. The NEW Monster is a New Event, so it’s nothing created before the Events of the end of the First movie…. it’s created by an event in the movie… and this New Monster is going to be based off of the Original Concept that Alien drew influence from, and this idea is something they had planned with Spaights’ Ultramorph and so Gigers Necomonicon 4 is the starting point. This Monster will be transparent like a Jelly Fish to a degree… and it’s hinted that David plays a part in its creation.

So, something old, something new. Makes sense and we’ll see what happens when "Alien: Covenant" arrives on October 6, 2017. But if you would’ve preferred Blomkamp’s proposed story, let us know in the comments section below.
