'Skins' & 'Wuthering Heights' Star Kaya Scodelario Joins YA Adaptation 'The Maze Runner'

nullIt looks like we weren’t the only ones who’ve had eyes on Kaya Scodelario. An actress we put on our list of 15 Breakout Artists To Watch From The 2013 Sundance Film Festival, she broke out on the UK series “Skins,” took small parts in Moon” and “Clash Of The Titans” and then led Andrea Arnold‘s experimental “Wuthering Heights.” She hit Park City in January with “Emanuel And The Truth About Fishes” (taking over a part originally intended for Rooney Mara), and now she’s bagged a franchise to call her own.

The Maze Runner” director Wes Ball tweeted over the weekend, “Aml Ameen and Kaya Scodelario were mesmerizing on camera today. Oops. Did I just reveal @kScodders is our Teresa? :)” The movie is the latest YA hopeful in a sea of them, following Thomas, a teen who wakes up with amnesia and soon finds himself in a completely closed environment called the Glade. There he finds around 60 other teen boys who have been trying to escape from the enclosure for two years through a surrounding maze. Things change drastically though when a comatose girl arrives with a strange note. As for Theresa, she’s Thomas’ best friend, and the only female Glader.

Production is gearing up, though there is still no word on the male lead (but we’d imagine we’ll find out any day now). “The Maze Runner” will arrive next Valentine’s Day and hopefully fare better than “Beautiful Creatures” did. [via ONTD]
