Tom Hiddleston Says Loki Was Cut From 'Avengers: Age Of Ultron' Because It Was Confusing Test Audiences

nullNo matter what you thought about "Avengers: Age Of Ultron," there’s no one who is going to argue that it needed more characters. Stuffed to the gills with the core team plus all kinds of side players and new faces, the bloated blockbuster promised it would be bigger—and well, it was. But one of the casualties of the editing process was Loki, with Tom Hiddleston‘s villain snipped from the final movie. He didn’t have a big role, but nonetheless, Thor’s brother is a big part of the Marvel-verse. It turns out that was a bit of a problem, as Loki isn’t a character you can have pop up and leave.

Chatting with Digital Spy, Hiddleston explained that his character was axed for the simple reason that audiences could really accept the villain in such a small appearance. “I was part of the dream sequence for the character of Thor, and I shot for a day, enjoyed it very much," the actor told Digital Spy. "Then I received a phone call from Kevin Feige, actually Joss [Whedon] emailed me, basically Kevin said that in test screenings audiences had over-emphasized Loki’s role. So they thought that because I was in it I was controlling Ultron, and that it was imbalancing people’s expectations. So Joss and Kevin were like ‘Let’s cut it because it’s confusing people.’”
