Watch: 5-Minute Kitchen Brawl Clip From 'The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones'

If the upcoming YA adaptation “The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones” has made one positive move in its lead up to release, it’s sourcing John Murphy‘s excellent “Sunshine” theme heavily over the top of every trailer thus far. The actual film is another matter entirely, but alongside a featurette introducing newcomers to author Cassandra Clare‘s supernatural world, a new five-minute clip from the film has given us our first real look at the final result.

The film stars Lily Collins as Clary Fray, a young New York girl who discovers she comes from a demon-hunting line of Shadowhunters, and a new extended clip shows her first confrontation with both sides of good and evil. It begins with Clary’s mother (Lena Headey) getting absolutely pummeled around a kitchen (bloodlessly, of course) by a demon in Kevin Durand form, and then shifts to Clary’s attempts to help with the aid of dashing, sword-wielding Jace (Jamie Campbell Bower).

The clip is simultaneously frothy and somewhat intense — at least until a dog morphs into a CG glob of appendages — but we’ll see on August 21st if satisfaction awaits both audiences and Screen Gems (who are hoping for a prequel down the line and are already gearing up to shoot “The Mortal Instruments: City Of Ashes“). Check out the clip below, as well as a featurette with Collins, Bower and obligatory mentor figures Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Jared Harris giving narrative context for the uninitiated. [Yahoo]
