Eddie Vedder Writing A New Song & Contributing Tracks To Christian Bale's 'Out Of The Furnace'

Christian Bale and Casey Affleck teaming up for "Out Of The Furnace," the long-awaited sophomore effort from "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper, is pretty much all the reason we needed to place it on our Most Anticipated Of 2013 list. But the gritty Rust Belt tale about two brothers who become ensnared in a violent crime ring, now has another texture to add to the drama its cooking up.

Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder will not only write and record a new song for the movie, he's also contributing several of his previously recorded tunes. There's no word yet on what songs exactly will factor in, but this isn't Vedder's first time at the movie rodeo. His solo work and tunes by Pearl Jam have featured in numerous films, perhaps most notably in "Dead Man Walking" and "Into The Wild," and more recently in the documentary "West Of Memphis."

As for when the actual film will see the light of day, that's up in the air. With Sundance in the rearview, and Berlin having solidified its lineup, one wonders if "Out Of The Furnace" will stop at SXSW, or perhaps more appropriately at the Cannes Film Festival in May. We shall see, but Vedder adds another intriguing ingredient to this promising project. [LA Times]
