Got a Tip?

Ron Perlman Will Give Your Kids Nightmares On The Poster For ‘Frankie Go Boom’

nullDon't let your kids catch a glimpse of this poster because this is an image that could haunt them for years and cost you thousands in therapy. Ron Perlman is front and center as a transgender computer hacker on the first poster for Jordan Roberts' eccentric-sounding SXSW comedy "Frankie Go Boom."

The film stars Charlie Hunnam, Chris O'Dowd, Lizzy Caplan, Eric Noth and Whitney Cummings and follows the story about "two brothers, a girl with a broken heart, a sex tape, an angel and a pig." Okay, so just how eccentric might the film be? Just look to helmer Roberts himself. The NY Times details a story where Roberts was asked to email a short logline of the film for the SXSW festival late one night. Tired and feeling "a little punchy," this is what came out:

“A flick by Bruce about his little brother Frank who’s a crybaby fuck who shouldn’t do lameass imberrising shit if he dozn’t want people 2 see it on the internet.”

The next morning, Roberts made all efforts to redeem his late-night mistake, emailing a "kinder, gentler — and slightly duller — logline" to the festival. Only, the problem now was that he was sending it to the wrong people. Did he tie his own noose with the whole ordeal? No, quite the opposite. Emails began flooding in, people found the synopsis hilarious and the film has now become one of the "must-sees" at the fest. Here's an extended festival synopsis which colors in the rest of the story:

Frank (Hunnam) has been tortured, embarrassed, and humiliated — usually on film — by his brother Bruce (O'Dowd) his entire life. Now that Bruce has finally kicked drugs and turned his life around, things should be different. But when Frank's one-night stand with a distressed young woman (Caplan) goes not quite as planned, Bruce's camera is ready, as always, to capture it…and share it with the world.

Movieline have a little extra on the plot noting that "while trying to remove a compromising video from the internet, the two brothers visit a brilliant computer hacker named Phil (Perlman). But when they get there, they discover that Phil is now Phyllis… …and she has no intention of helping them for 'free.' " Chaos ensues? We'll find out on March 10th when the film premieres in Austin.
