A little bit of movie score news to close out the week, courtesy of the good folks over at Film Music Reporter.
First up Steve Jablonsky, who recently beefed up “Your Highness” and the forthcoming “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” has appropriately been hired to score “Battleship.” Directed by Peter Berg and starring Taylor Kitsch, Alexander Skarsgård, Rihanna, Hamish Linklater, Brooklyn Decker and Liam Neeson, the board game movie is about aliens or something something YOU SUNK MY BATTLESHIP. Prediction, there will be at least one “Inception“-like BRAAAAAHM. “Battleship” opens on May 18, 2012.
Christophe Beck who has been mixing it up recently with “Red,” “Due Date,” “Burlesque,” “Cedar Rapids” and “The Hangover Part II” will tune up the forthcoming Brett Ratner movie “Tower Heist.” Starring Ben Stiller, Eddie Murphy, Alan Alda, Téa Leoni, Gabourey Sidibe, Michael Peña, Matthew Broderick, Casey Affleck and Judd Hirsch, the film will follow an overworked manager of a luxury building (Stiller) who, along with the staff, loses their pensions to a Bernie Madoff-like Wall Street crook (Alda). It so happens that the fraudster is being held under house arrest in the luxury penthouse apartment upstairs, and the manager and four cohorts figure a heist will make them whole. Sidibe and Peña will be joining Stiller in the master plan to rip off the Madoff character. Broderick will play Chase Fitzhugh, a Wall Street-type who also lost his money to the fraudster. So yeah, sounds good, but it’s still being directed by Brett Ratner so, who knows. “Tower Heist” opens on November 4th.
Finally, after juggling some reshoot delays thanks to the increasingly busy schedule of Daniel Craig, Jim Sheridan‘s “Dream House” is coming up and John Debney will provide the score. Starring Rachel Weisz and Naomi Watts along with Craig, “Dream House” follows the story of a successful New York publisher (Craig) who moves his wife (Weisz) and children to a New England town, where they buy the home of their dreams. That dream, however, is shattered when they learn that the previous tenants were murdered, leading the husband to team with a neighbor (Watts) to learn the truth about the crime. Sounds pretty standard, but we hope there’s more below the surface. It opens on September 30th.
