Walking home with the Un Certain Regard prize for “Hahaha” at Cannes last year (and you can check out our review of the film, which we caught up with at SFIFF right here) director Hong Sang-soo returns to the south of France this year hoping for a repeat.
A trailer for his latest effort, “The Day He Arrives,” has landed and it’s pretty clever. Told in reverse, the spot introduces us the characters we’ll meet in the film via arrows with text as we watch them pile a drunk friend into a cab. As for the story, it follows Sang-joon, a film professor at a university, who goes to visit an older film critic in a northern village in Seoul. And we presume that’s just the entry point of the film.
The Cannes Film Festival kicks off on May 11th. Watch the trailer below courtesy of Twitch. The pics are official stills from the film.
