A couple of film acquisitions happened recently that are definitely worth noting as the calendar for 2011 continues to make refinements as we head into the mid-point of the year.
First up, “The House At The End Of The Street” featuring Oscar-nominee and “The Hunger Games” star Jennifer Lawrence has found a home with Relativity. Co-starring Elisabeth Shue and Max Theriot (“Jumper“), directed by Mark Tonderai (“Hush“) and written by David Loucka (“Dream House“) the film seems like a compact little thriller about a new kid in town who unearths a dark secret about the new home in which she lives. Here’s the official synopsis:
A young girl moves to a new town with her mother. Upon arriving, she discovers her abode is right across the street from one in which a double murder occurred. Even eerier, she winds up befriending the bloodbath’s only survivor…
There’s no release date yet, though we’re gonna guess it’ll arrive this fall with a TIFF premiere in the works.
Are you ready for another found footage movie? No? Well too bad, because one is coming anyway. Lionsgate has picked up the horror flick “The Bay” which only barely has our attention as it’s directed by Barry Levinson (“You Don’t Know Jack,” “Bugsy“). An ecological/biological horror film, the story chronicles an unprecedented biological disaster unleashed from the waters of the Chesapeake Bay — an isopod parasite, carrying a horrific untreatable disease, that jumps from fish to human hosts. Camera phone accounts, 911 calls and other mediums will be used to tell the tale of the viral outbreak.
No release but we figure it’ll slot in as the Lionsgate’s “Saw” replacement this year around Halloween.
