Got a Tip?

David Ayer Taps Into His ‘Fury’ To Direct WWII Pic

nullUntil now, David Ayer has pretty much been known for one thing: cop flicks. "Training Day," "Dark Blue," "S.W.A.T.," "Harsh Times" and "End Of Watch" all bear his name as writer and/or director, but Ayer is taking a sharp left turn for his next effort, and kicking things up a notch.

QED International has snapped up "Fury," a WWII film Ayer will write and direct, with the company financing, producing and handling sales. And the concept for this one is pretty straightforward: set in 1945, it will center on the five-man crew of the tank Fury, who are locked in battle with a desperate German army. Lots of explosions are presumably involved. In short, it's a tank combat movie, and promises have already been made that it will try to push the genre further, with QED honcho Bill Block saying it's "not your father’s World War II movie."

Production on "Fury" will get underway later this year, but first Ayer will need to finish up his next movie, the Arnold Schwarznegger-starring cop/heist flick "Ten," slated for release on January 24, 2014. [Screen Daily]
