With the wheels now firmly turning on "Crazy Heart" director Scott Cooper's long awaited next effort, the cast for "Out Of The Furance" — which was already pretty damn strong — just added another dose of awesome.
The always reliable and rock solid Woody Harrelson has joined the cast of the gritty film. Penned by Brad Ingelsby, the story follows Russell Baze (Christian Bale) and his younger brother Rodney (Casey Affleck), who live in the economically depressed Rust Belt, and have always dreamed of escaping and finding better lives. But when a cruel twist of fate lands Russell in prison, his brother is lured into one of the most violent and ruthless crime rings in the Northeast — a mistake that will almost cost him everything. Once released, Russell must choose between his own freedom, or risk it all to seek justice for his brother. Zoe Saldana plays Russell's love interest, with Sam Shepard as his Uncle. And now Harrelson will play Curtis DeGroat, the man who drew Rodney into the crime ring. We're guessing this is the role Billy Bob Thornton was linked to a couple of weeks back, and as far as switch ups go, you can't get better than this.
The movie goes in front of cameras later this month and will be up for international buyers next month at Cannes and you can bet a movie with Bale, Harrelson, Saldana and Affleck will be one attracting plenty of heat. [Variety]
