Watch: New TV Spot & Behind The Scenes Footage Of ‘The Rover,’ Plus A Timeline Collapse Of The Future

The Rover

”You don’t learn to fight, your death’s gonna come real soon,” Guy Pearce intones in this new TV spot for “The Rover.” And it’s a warning and challenge to co-star Robert Pattinson, with the pair dropped into a sun-cooked, post-apocalyptic future for “Animal Kingdom” director David Michod‘s next. And if you weren’t able to attend Cannes, the good news is that the movie is shortly on its way to theaters. And it’s one you’ll want to watch.

Bleak, brutal and unrelentingly nihilist,” Jessica Kiang wrote in her review, with this one promising a pretty singular experience this summer. The story follows a man who hunts down the gang of criminals who stole his car, forcing a wounded and abandoned member of the gang to help track them. It’s a simple premise, but one taken to its tension-filled extreme, and not only that, the film boasts a pretty great soundtrack too. Do you want to dig into the film more? Well you can, as a timeline of the collapse in the film, along with how the future is reshaped, you can check out the links below.

A TIMELINE OF THE COLLAPSE
The near-future of The Rover is one in which a steady but catastrophic Western economic collapse has reduced Australia to the status of a dangerous, resource-rich third world country, and where a brutal social order now reigns. This timeline shows what it might look like if under-regulated, rapacious Western economies destroyed themselves from the inside. REMAPPING THE FUTURE
The consequences of a Western economic collapse would be felt globally. In The Rover, the outback of Australia is just one corner of the planet where people might come to try and eke out an existence. This interactive map is a visual guide to the global economic and demographic landscape—in our present day, and a hypothetical near future where the balance of economic power has been entirely inverted.

“The Rover” opens in limited release on June 13th and goes wide on June 20th. TV spot and behind-the-scenes footage (via TheRoverFilm and EW) below.
