The impact of “The Simpsons” on popular culture is undeniable and it’s often easy to forget just how huge it was (remember the novelty hit “Do The Bartman”?). But what’s perhaps most curious is that aside from the great writing, fantastic humor and at times deeply touching stories (Mr. Bergstrom forever), the creators of the show were huge pop culture junkies themselves, and movie buffs too. But they didn’t just fold their homages to some cinema’s most iconic films lazily or without reason, and as this supercut shows, they were often ingenious in making it both natural and hilarious.
The folks at NextMovie have compiled a staggering 19-minute supercut that crosses off every single movie reference in “The Simpsons” from the first five seasons, and we bet there are going to be some you forgot about or just plain didn’t know. Oh sure you know “Raiders Of The Lost Ark,” “The Amityville Horror,” “E.T. The Extra Terrestrial” and “Rocky III,” but “Tom Jones“? Bet you didn’t see that one coming. Overall, it’s a pretty wicked reminder of how good the show used to be and will certainly make you want to crack open those seasons on DVD this weekend. Watch below. [via FilmDrunk]
