Got a Tip?

Artwork & Tracklisting For ‘The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey’ Soundtrack Revealed, Comes In Two Different Editions, Obviously

nullMaking "The Hobbit" movies is expensive stuff (estimates put each installment between $200-300 million…damn…), which means the marketing and sales opportunities for this are going to be "interesting." Hell, we've already seen Air New Zealand and Denny's doing their best to pimp the brand. And when it comes to getting money out of the superfans, Peter Jackson and co. are finding ways to make completists buy stuff twice over.

The official artwork and tracklisting for the film's soundtrack has been unveiled, and it's not exactly earth shattering. It features the score by Howard Shore, along with some extended versions of some cuts and some songs by dwarfs, led by Richard Armitrage. And yes, Crowded House member Neil Finn's contribution "Song Of The Lonely Mountain" is here too. But of course, this will be coming in two editions. The Special Edition will have four exclusive tracks, and the Standard Edition…won't. Why they couldn't just put everything in one package is beyond us, but then again, this series has never been shy about delivering multiple iterations of a product.

The soundtrack will hit stores on December 11th, just before the film is released worldwide on December 14th. Tracklisting and artwork below. [Fandango]
