Got a Tip?

Calm Down Crazy: First Trailer For David O. Russell’s ‘Silver Linings Playbook’ With Bradley Cooper & Jennifer Lawrence

nullWhile The Weinstein Company have quickly gotten the buzz started around Quentin Tarantino's "Django Unchained" and Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master," they've been a bit slower on rolling out the campaign for David O. Russell's "Silver Linings Playbook" after all three screened footage early for press at the Cannes Film Festival. Well, let it begin as the first trailer has arrived, and yes, it shows some strong promise.

Pretty much matching exactly what we saw in France, the spot serves as pretty decent guide to the characters we'll meet. Based on the book by Matthew Quick, the story centers on Pat Peoples (a tracksuit and Philadelphia Eagles jersey-wearing Bradley Cooper), a former high school teacher who, after being released from an eight month stint in a mental institution, moves back in with his parents, then seeks to put his life back together. Along the way he meets Tiffany (Jennifer Lawrence), an equally fucked up girl/love interest, and the two forge an oddball relationship and try to put their lives back on track.

Like we've said, this seems to be in the vein of old school Russell, like "Flirting With Disaster," which is fine by us, but not without some crowdpleasing notes that the Weinsteins hope will play (and we hope Russell can pull of that balance). Everyone looks to be in top form: Cooper nicely plays the kind of character he's never really done, Lawrence looks sharp and strong in what is in many ways her first "adult" role, while Chris Tucker is actually restrained. And oh yeah, Chris Tucker is in this.

Anyway, enough from us. Watch the trailer below. The film opens on November 21st.
