David O. Russell Wants To Make A Musical With Amy Adams Plus ‘American Hustle’ Clip & Full Soundtrack Details

American HustleAfter tantalizing glimpses of David O. Russell‘s “American Hustle” through its trailer and six-minute preview at AFI Fest, the end result has screened for critics and indeed it seems another mostly solid hit for the “Silver Linings Playbook” director. Alongside its major NYFCC awards win, our review deemed the film “decidedly more admirable than affecting,” but with a limited release starting this week, Sony is pushing for spreading the word even more, showcasing a brand new clip and the reveal of the soundtrack along with the prospect of future projects from Russell.

The “I Heart Huckabees” director has always prized re-introducing actors to the public through unconventional roles, and “American Hustle” is no different. Christian Bale, Bradley Cooper, and Amy Adams all turn in wildly different performances in the loose retelling of the ABSCAM scandal, but in a recent NY Times profile on Adams, Russell hinted at a new role for the “Her” actress specifically. “I have a musical idea for her that I would like to discuss with her,” he said, reportedly striking upon the notion after seeing her singing and dancing skills briefly on ‘Hustle.’ Adding why Adams would be perfect for the part, Russell explained, “Appetite has a lot to do with it. And she has an enormous appetite. It’s almost athletic. She rises to the challenge.”

Next, Adams will go the tentpole route with “Batman vs. Superman," but she also expressed adoration for Jessica Chastain and hopes to work with the “Tree of Life” actress very soon. “I want to find something where we can play sisters,” she told the paper. “We can do a chain thing: You write one scene, I’ll write another, and we’ll send it back and forth while I’m doing ‘Superman.’ ”

But until all that happens (or not), let’s circle back to "American Hustle." Another clip from the movie has arrived focused on Bradley Cooper’s scheming FBI agent and Amy Adams’ con-woman, and the official soundtrack is out on iTunes today (via Broadway World), spanning 15 tracks including a new cut from Jeff Lynne (via AV Club). Full details below, and you can start hustling in theaters this Friday.
