Among the many films this year in Oscar contention, very few match the intensity of Cary Fukunaga‘s "Beasts Of No Nation." The Netflix release is the company’s first fully produced feature film, and it debuted this fall on their service — but don’t let that fact fool you. Cinematic in every aspect of its production values and scope, and worthy of the big screen (where it has also screened in limited release), ‘Beasts’ is accomplished filmmaking that tackles a difficult subject head-on.
Starring Idris Elba and newcomer Abraham Attah (who picked up an award at the Venice Film Festival for his performance), the adaptation of Uzodinma Iweala‘s novel follows a young boy who comes under the command of a brutal military leader and is trained to be a child soldier. It’s a harrowing journey, captured palpably by Fukunaga, and this exclusive featurette explores his uncompromising vision, the complexity of the performances, and all the work that went into bringing this story to life.
"Beasts Of No Nation" is now available on Netflix. Watch the featurette below.
