The lives of one of these two guys is going to change dramatically. Last month it emerged that Marvel was taking a look at a battery of actors to take the lead in their upcoming "Guardians Of The Galaxy" including Joel Edgerton, Jack Huston, Lee Pace, Eddie Redmayne, Jim Sturgess, Garrett Hedlund, James Marsden and Sullivan Stapleton. Now, one of those people has survived the cut, with one other new face now joining the greatly reduced shortlist to play Peter Quill.
Jim Sturgess and "Chuck" star Zachary Levi are said to be the names Marvel is looking at to lead their ambitious film. Here's the simplified version of the character's backstory: He crash lands on Earth as a baby and is raised by humans. He eventually works at NASA, gets sent to a space station, where he encounters Master Of The Sun, who names him the next Star-Lord. Fast-forward a bit and he's part of the Guardians Of The Galaxy, who team up with The Avengers to fight Thanos. Sturgess would be new to the Marvel world, but it should be noted that Levi already has a role as Fandral in "Thor: The Dark World." It's a bit odd that in the carefully constructed Marvel universe, they want the actor to play a different role in another movie. Hmmm…..
But Marvel isn't putting all their apples in this cart (is that a metaphor?), with
Variety adding that the studio may add a third name into the mix after the holidays. So this shortlist could become longer, as testing tends to go in Hollywood. But any thoughts? Can these guys lead a superhero movie? Tell us below.
