After a first poster that didn't even show the title, Universal has realized that people need to the know the name of a movie if they are going to buy tickets and so they have dropped a rather plain poster for "Zero Dark Thirty."
As you know, this one is Kathryn Bigelow's semi-controversial take on the hunt and killing of terrorist leader Osama Bin Laden, and it has already drawn the scrutiny of political types hoping to expose the movie as Obama propaganda. But as recently revealed documents show, if anything, officials at the White House are probably mostly guilty of just being overly excited about being involved in a movie dealing with one of the most important recent events in history.
Starring Jessica Chastain, Mark Strong, Joel Edgerton, Kyle Chandler, Jason Clarke, Scott Adkins, Jennifer Ehle, Chris Pratt, Édgar Ramirez, Frank Grillo, Nash Edgerton, and Mark Duplass "Zero Dark Thirty" happens on December 19th. [Yahoo]
Meanwhile, Andrew Dominik also takes a chapter in recent American history — the financial meltdown just before the 2008 election — and brilliantly uses it as the background for his wickedly sharp "Killing Them Softly."
The picture stars Brad Pitt as hitman Jackie Cogan, who is tasked with finding two guys who knocked off a mob-protected game, and eliminating them. He contracts the job out to James Gandolfini and that is only the start of a movie that is as much a comment on the econonmic landscape as it is a moody anti-thriller. And these new Mondo-designed posters get right to the heart of the matter by putting a bullet in the head of statue of liberty. Subtle, this is not. You'll also get a clear idea of why it is called "Killing Them Softly," with a quote from the movie.
