Paul Feig To Direct HBO Comedy Pilot 'The Viagra Diaries' Starring Goldie Hawn

nullWhile many continue to speculate whether or not this past summer’s breakout comedy “Bridesmaids” deserves a sequel, stars like Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy are lining up far more interesting projects than a rehash of that great comedy, and so is their director Paul Feig.

While Feig wisely avoidedBridget Jones 3,” he lined up a new directorial effort at Universal with “The Better Woman” and now Deadline is reporting Feig will heap another helping of female centered comedy on his plate by helming HBO’s Goldie Hawn-starring pilot for “The Viagra Diaries.” Created by Darren Star, who executive produced/created “Sex and the City” for HBO, and based on a book by Barbara Rose Brooker, the series follows a woman (Hawn) whose husband experiences his “mid-life crisis” at 65. He leaves her to cope with functioning as a single woman after 35 long years of marriage. There’s a bunch of producer credits to dole out including Feig who executive produce along with Hawn and others, as well as husband-and-wife duo Alan and Wendy Riche with their son Peter who initially optioned the book as a feature film.

We must say it’s good to see Feig straying away from “Bridesmaids 2” territory, as really and truly that’s the last thing we want those talented individuals to be doing. While it looks like Feig has been pigeonholed in the realm of female led comedy as of late, with no surprises there, that certainly isn’t a bad thing as the world of television and feature films could always use more strong female leads.

No words on when cameras will start rolling on this one but we’d guess from the sounds of it, this could gear up soon.
