This weekend sees Jacques Audiard's fantastic "Rust And Bone" open in limited release, and we've already been predicting big things for one of the film's leads, Matthias Schoenaerts. In our review we wrote that the "Bullhead" star "may find his breakthrough here, with comparisons to Tom Hardy to come….he's a similarly commanding physical presence, but he's the rare breed with acting chops to spare." And indeed, just like for Hardy, it seems a number of doors are opening up.
The actor is in final negotiations to join Michelle Williams and Kristin Scott Thomas in the WWII drama "Suite Francaise." An adaptation of Irene Nemirovsky's novel, the story charts the love affair between a young French woman (Williams) and the German officer assigned to watch her in Nazi-occupied France. It looks like Schoenaerts will play the soldier, with Thomas slotted in as Williams' mother. Saul Dibb of "The Duchess" fame is directing, and everything is coming together to shoot in London next spring.
You had us at Williams, and adding Schoenaerts into the mix just put it over the top. So yeah, we'll be there with bells on. [Daily Mail]
