Got a Tip?

‘Spider-Man’ Gig Is Still Up For Grabs: Six Actors Screentest Including Asa Butterfield, Tom Holland & More

The Amazing Spider-ManNews that Asa Butterfield was offered the part of Marvel/Sony’s “Spider-Man” proved to be false according to a new trade report. It appears the shortlist for the role is down to six actors and only two of the original names are still in the mix, including Butterfield and Tom Holland, who played  Naomi Watts son in the tsunami drama “The Impossible.”

A presumed frontrunner, "The Fault in Our Stars" and "Paper Towns" actor Nat Wolff is not mentioned by name and appears to no longer be in contention. THR reports that six actors have screen tested for the role, and the additional four contenders are Judah Lewis (who will be seen in Jean Marc-Vallee‘s upcoming fall drama “Demolition” with Jake Gyllenhaal), Matthew Lintz (Adam Sandler’s Pixels”), "Boardwalk Empire" actor Charlie Plummer (he played Shea Whigham son), and British actor Charlie Rowe (of Fox’s now defunct “Red Band Society”).

Sony and Marvel have to make a decision quick because Spider-Man is supposed to appear in “Captain America: Civil War.” Apparently, these actors are the six finalists. Marvel is expected to make a decision soon, so while Butterfield may not have the role yet, it’s possible he could still land the part. But basically, another day, another shortlist report with few new names. Presume nothing is final until there’s a final word.
