Got a Tip?

Susanne Bier To Direct Adaptation Of Helen Schulman’s Best-Selling ‘This Beautiful Life’

nullWe always like when a director changes course, tackles different kinds of material and stays unpredictable, and Susanne Bier is doing just that. This helmer’s Italian romantic trifle, “Love Is All You Need,” heads to theaters later this month, she’s got the Depression era drama “Serena” starring Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper in the can and ready (presumably) for a festival appearance some time in 2013 and next up? How about a contemporary domestic drama about life in the digital age?

Killer Films and Glass Elevator Media announced today they are producing a big screen adaptation of Helen Schulman‘s “This Beautiful Life” with Bier attached to direct. The author herself will pen the screenplay about a salacious video sent to Jake, a tenth grader, that goes viral, putting his family in the midst of a scandal. Here’s the Amazon synopsis:

When fifteen-year-old Jake Bergamot receives—and then forwards to a friend—a sexually explicit video that an eighth-grade admirer sent to him, the video goes viral within hours. The scandal that ensues threatens to shatter his family’s sense of security and identity—and, ultimately, their happiness. This Beautiful Life is a devastating, clear-eyed portrait of modern life that will have readers debating their assumptions about family, morality, and the choices we make in the name of love.

Sounds like provocative material, that is less about the dangers of the internet, and more about communication in this current day and age. In short, it sounds promising and we’ll be interested to see how it develops from here. [ComingSoon]
