The Toronto International Film Festival celebrates 40 years in 2015, and today they’ve announced the first wave of titles that will be coming in September. As always, there are some big attractions, so let’s dive in.
Netflix gets their awards season prospects hopping by bringing Cary Fukunaga‘s "Beasts Of No Nation" to Toronto. Tom Hooper‘s "The Danish Girl" starring last year’s Best Actor Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne will screen. Tom McCarthy‘s Catholic Church drama "Spotlight" is heading to Canada, Lenny Abrahamson‘s "Room" (based on the acclaimed novel and starring Brie Larson) and a new Michael Moore documentary, "Who Should We Invade Next?" are also slated.
And that’s not all. Ridley Scott makes a rare festival appearance with his upcoming sci-fi flick "The Martian," Stephen Frears‘ Lance Armstrong pic "The Program" will ride, Tom Hardy does double duty in "Legend," while gay rights dramas "Freeheld" and "Stonewall" will both screen. There’s also Jonas Cuaron‘s "Desierto" starring Gael Garcia Bernal, and "Colonia" starring Emma Watson and Daniel Bruhl.
Lastly, opening the festival will be Jean Marc-Vallee‘s "Demolition" starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Naomi Watts.
TIFF runs from September 10-20.
