Got a Tip?

TV: Jane Campion’s ‘Top Of The Lake’ Will Return For Season 2; Shows Based On ‘In Good Company’ & ‘The Illusionist’ In The Works

nullPremiering last year at the Sundance Film Festival and then bowing on the Sundance Channel, Jane Campion‘s six episode "Top Of The Lake" was one of the most powerful, heart-wrenching dramas we witnessed on any screen in 2013. While it won Elisabeth Moss a rightly deserved Golden Globe for her performance and cinematographer Adam Arkapaw an Emmy for his own work, we’d venture the show could’ve used even more people tuning in. Well, if "Top Of The Lake" didn’t land on your radar, now is the time to catch up.

Screen Daily reports that Jane Campion and series co-writer Garth Lee are now developing a second season. Hell yes! Unfortunately, that’s the only detail at the moment, with Australia’s production house See-Saw gearing up the new season. And while it’s not certain if Moss will return to reprise her role, the world of "Top Of The Lake" is pretty rich, so it could easily pivot  to another facet. And **spoiler alert** given that Holly Hunter‘s character GJ leaves for Iceland, we’d doubt she’d be back too **end spoilers**. But this is great news all around, and we’re eager to find out the direction the new season will go.

In other, not as exciting TV news, Deadline reports that The CW are developing a show based on that 2006 Edward Norton-starring magician movie, "The Illusionist." There’s not much in the way of details, but the setting will be switched up from Vienna to New York, probably because getting CW viewers to watch a period based drama will be a tough job.

Meanwhile, the trade also reports that Paul Weitz‘s sorta okay 2004 dramedy "In Good Company" to come to CBS as a series. The plot here will remain the same, following a middle aged advertising executive who has to deal with his younger boss dating his daughter. Cue mid-life malaise.
