Watch: First Trailer For Baz Luhrmann's Netflix Series 'The Get Down' With Shameik Moore, Jaden Smith, And More

"The Get Down"Funny, I was just wondering about "The Get Down." Last summer, Baz Luhrmann‘s brewing Netflix show took a brief production hiatus and then not much was heard after that. It seems it was minor hiccup, and things went swimmingly as Neflix has unveiled a big taste of the new series today.

Starring Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Jaden Smith, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Browne, Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jimmy Smits and Giancarlo Esposito, the show will take viewers into the streets, clubs, and music scene of 1970s New York City, and it looks like there will be plenty of grit to go with the glamor. Here’s the official synopsis:

The Get Down focuses on 1970s New York — broken down and beaten up, violent, cash strapped — dying. Consigned to rubble, a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them — except each other, armed only with verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. From Bronx tenements, to the SoHo art scene; from CBGB to Studio 54 and even the glass towers of the just-built World Trade Center, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco — as told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids who changed the city and the world…forever.

No release date yet for this one, but it looks like we’re going to have our fill of ’70s-centered music shows this year, with Martin Scorsese‘s "Vinyl" also on the way. Watch below.
