Oh damn, the Oscar race just got a huge twist. While filming had been taking place earlier this year, "The Big Short" wasn’t officially dated, and it was assumed that the Adam McKay directed movie would likely be rolled out sometime next year. Wrong. Paramount Pictures is clearly feeling pretty great about the film because they’ve slotted it for release before the end of the year, just in time for Oscar season, and the first trailer has arrived.
Featuring a heavyweight cast including Steve Carell, Brad Pitt, Christian Bale, and Ryan Gosling, the film is based on the book by "Moneyball" writer Michael Lewis that explores how the greed of banks spurred the housing crisis of 2005. No doubt it’s fiery subject matter, but McKay, better known for his comedy efforts with Will Ferrell, balances humor and drama throughout. And hell, he could’ve made a horror movie (which I guess this story kind of is) and I’d watch this cast play it out."The Big Short" will close AFI Fest, open in limited release on December 11th and go wide on December 23rd.
