Summer is the season of finding a quiet, sun warmed spot, cracking open a cold drink, and opening a breezy page-turner. "Mr. Holmes" may just be the cinematic equivalent of that annual tradition, and today a new trailer has arrived for the latest effort between Ian McKellen and Bill Condon.
Yes, this is a movie about Sherlock Holmes, but not the dashing hero you might know from countless other iterations. Instead, this time around our hero tries to solve a decades old case, one that he may have gotten wrong the first time around. It’s a trip down memory lane of sorts, with the added complication that his own cognitive abilities are on the wane. The result is a movie we called "a thoughtful and moving study of age and memory, fiction and reality, fame and privacy."
"Mr. Holmes" opens on June 19th in the U.K., and July 17th in the U.S.
