Listen: Ennio Morricone’s “L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock” From Quentin Tarantino’s ‘The Hateful Eight’

The Hateful EightWith much-touted "glorious" 70mm release of "The Hateful Eight" a little more than a week away, and early reviews landing online this afternoon, Quentin Tarantino‘s latest is gearing up to square off with audiences and critics. And part of the package of his upcoming western is a score by Ennio Morricone that features a little bit of something borrowed, and a little bit of something new. And today, a look at the latter has landed.

The film’s opening theme, "L’Ultima Diligenza di Red Rock” is classic Morricone, with his trademark approach vocals, both propulsive and atmospheric, and what is undoubtedly a nice tension builder to open up the movie. Of course, the big question is whether or not he’ll have Oscar eligibility, given a good chunk of the score is unused music he wrote for John Carpenter‘s "The Thing," but we’ll just have to see how the Academy rules on that.
