Angela Bassett Joins McG's 'This Means War' With Chris Pine, Tom Hardy & Reese Witherspoon

Set Photos Leak From Location In Vancouver

While filming is already well underway in Vancouver, Canada and has been for several weeks now (since September 13), Angela Bassett (“What’s Love Got To Do With It?“) has joined the cast of McG‘s action/romance spy comedy “This Means War.”

Playing a senior central intelligence officer who has no life outside the CIA, Basset’s boss character joins a cast that includes Reese Witherspoon as the love interest for two spy agents and best friends (Chris Pine, Tom Hardy) who go to war with each other while vying for her affections. David Koechner (“Anchorman“), Chelsea Handler, Til Schweiger (“Inglourious Basterds“) and Leela Savastas also have roles in the film.

20th Century Fox‘s “This Means War” has been in development for more than a decade (circa 1998) and erstwhile iterations of the film were to star Martin Lawrence and Chris Rock. Several writers have penned drafts of the picture including Burr Steers (“How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days“), Cormac and Marianne Wibberly (“National Treasure“), Kiernan and Michele Mulroney (“Paper Man,” “Sherlock Holmes 2“), however Tim Dowling (“Role Models“) and Marcus Gautesen (“Carboy“) will be credited with the story (Gore Verbinski was one of the directors originally attached to helm back in the day).

While no firm release date has been set, McG’s action comedy is expected to hit sometime in 2011 and we would assume the summer. Basset has Sony‘s wedding comedy “Jumping the Broom,” scheduled for May 6 2011, followed by Warner Bros.‘ “Green Lantern,” set for June 17.
